Old Newspaper Collection Unit started in the year 1970 by MESCO with an idea to raise funds by collecting and selling Newspapers. With a small amount of Rs. 3000/- generated by this sale in the first year, the activity has grown in leaps and bounds; from providing notebooks and textbooks to the students to supporting their careers. The activity today is run with three mobile units (Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban and Thane), collecting for 65 locations (3500 houses spread in 1652 societies and 10 Institutional Units) and is manned by a team of 10 dedicated staff who are often the first point of contact for the organization to the donors. Today this fund-raising platform supports educational scholarships, treatment and medical needs and also provides aid to many.
